We build and back companies that share the uniqueness of Africa — her people, her culture, her history — with the world. Some are media in the obvious sense: journalism, research, books, film, language. Others are not. A place you can stay. A table you can sit at. A way of learning. What ties them together is a sensibility, not a sector — each one made with the care of a storyteller, so it says something true about Africa.
What we look for
We are African-culture-focused, not Africa-geography-focused.
Within that frame, three things matter to us.

Cultural fit
The company shares something true about Africa — her people, culture, or history — with the world. It can take any form: media in the obvious sense, or a place, a product, an experience. What matters is that sharing Africa is what it is for.

Authentic Africanness
African specificity is built into what the company is, not applied as theme or branding. It could not be itself without its African roots.

Global quality
It can stand against the best in its category, anywhere. We don't accept a discount.

Building a more nuanced understanding of African culture and history.
We produce content across web, TikTok, and other channels that goes deeper into African culture and history than most people, Africans included, have access to. Our audience is Africans first — because the simplified versions hit closest to home — and anyone interested in Africa second. The goal is clarity and nuance: not the inherited shortcuts, not the celebratory version, just what's actually there.

Nommo Productions
Producing and funding African cultural work across books, music, film, and events.
Nommo creates and supports cultural work that does what content alone can't: build not just understanding, but confidence in and appreciation of African culture, in Africa and beyond. We produce some of this work ourselves and fund others making it — across books, music, film, and events. The shared goal across all of it is to put forward African culture clearly, fully, and at the highest quality.
